They make Corona, Modelo, and Victoria. Every Dec. 12th they celebrate El Dia de la Virgin (de Guadelupe) at the brewery. They have all these shrines to the Virgin of Guadelupe. But with a twist, almost all are make with beer bottles and/or cans prominently displayed. San Juan climbing the hill to The Virgin with beer bottles all around like a huge halo, or the Virgin in the middle of a diorama of brewery with the gigantic silos where the beer is stored made from Modelo beer cans. It was really funny to me, but everyone else takes it very seriously. It was hard to get good pictures because of the time of morning (5:30 AM). There is a lot of "hocus-pocus", and indigenous beliefs added to the Catholic church in Mexico, and I find the mix very interesting. It is also interesting watching the way a country where it is assumed you are Catholic is different than what we are used to in the US. It is nice to be able to compare with others from the US, I also don't want to offend anyone, but some stuff is just so strange to us.Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11215553041003543433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6553388201961125907.post-16152586477071272972010-05-07T15:08:04.000-07:002010-05-07T15:08:04.000-07:00What you said about the saints reminded me of one ...What you said about the saints reminded me of one of the strangest things I have seen here (other than the Santa Muertes and stuff to protect the drugistas, but that is another story.)

My husband is from Tuxtepec, home of the largest brewery.
