Mexican Citizenship part II

Its on people, we have my letter from D.F. saying I have no federal offenses. Monday we will get the one from state and write our letters and fill out the application. The plan is to go to the SRE (http://www.sre.gob.mx/) on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm not sure yet if I will be given my history test and interview then or if they will set up an appointment. I am studying pretty hard just in case. One problem is that I can not find any examples of the interview online except saying that it is up to the interviewer. So I'm praying that I get someone who is maybe in a hurry or just a really good mood and who likes Americans becoming citizens. I think Ill do OK if they drill me but it will make me nervous. And when I get nervous my mouth doesn't like to speak in Spanish.  I already wrote the list of paperwork needed on a different blog so I wont do that again but really the amount of paperwork needed for this wasn't all that bad.  The link I posted above is where you go to find your list. Each person is pretty specific as far as how you get the citizenship. After this craziness is over I hope to do some more posts on things like day care, work, and culture so please stay tuned even though I haven't been much of a sturdy blogger recently. ;9

  2. Aren't you worried about losing your American citenzenship by becoming naturalized in Mexico? I have heard and read so much conflicting information that I don't know what to think. Lori

  3. Thanks gringation will do!

Lori- Your concern is warranted, and believe it or not there is actually good reason for all the conflicting information. The thing is a lot of this relies on how you go about getting naturalized. For example my husband and children are Mexican citizens therefore I'm allowed a duel citizenship. Aside from that when you become a Mexican citizen you are not asked to renounce your previous one only that you swear loyalty to Mexico. And they recognize that this oath is only kept while with in their boarders. Does that make sense. If not I can explain better. The other thing to know is that Mexico does not share immigration information with other countries. So they never go to the country of origin and say, "Hey did you know so and so became a citizen here." In my case it wouldn't matter if they did because like I said my children are dual so I'm allowed to be dual even by the states. The only right this could possibly pull from me is the one to safety if something were to go horribly wrong here in Mexico. And they dont right out say you will loose that only that its a possibility. And to be honest if something went wrong and they decided not to accept dual citizens into the consulate that would leave my kids out and there is no way I'm running to safety and leaving them behind anyway. There are many pros and cons to both sides of this coin and after analyzing them I have chosen heads. ;) I hope I helped to clear it up a little. Maybe I should write a whole post about that considering how long this comment ended up being, and that I have a lot more that I could explain. lol

  5. Hi Amanda,

I love your blog and have been reading just about since you started blogging. I am about to start this citizenship process and was wondering, did you use an abogado or did you do this by yourself (writing the letters, etc)? How did you go about getting the letter from DF about no federal offenses?

  6. Hi Amanda,

I love your blog and have been reading almost since you started! It was the first one that I found about living in Mexico where the author was not retired!

I am about to start the citizenship process and was wondering you used an abogado or did it all yourself. I am just not sure about the letters. How did you request the background check from DF?

    Thanks,

    Jennifer

  7. Jennifer, I am going to make a post that speaks directly to that. My husband actually picked up that form for me and I will write specificlly to what he needed. Ill try to get that blog out this week.

Anon who is to embarrassed to sign their name- Let me tell you that I have read and reread all of these items you posted before you so kindly sent them. Except the Stupidity act of course I somehow missed that one (Ill be sure to look it up when I have time). I will also speak directly to your comment in a separate post. Please stay tuned. Oh and welcome back.

  8. I am not the anonymous commenter with negative comments; I am Lori--and did sign my name. I just haven't registered so it says anonymous, so I sign my name at the end.
Your lengthy answer to me on Aug. 5th was informative, and I am wondering how it is going with the citizenship process for you? Lori

  9. Hey there Lori, people like you are the reason I refuse to block all Anon comments. Dont worry I wouldnt get you confused with the rude one. They have a certain ring to their comments and of course never put a name or put a false one. I did write a recent post about how things are going. Basically I have to wait till November go to my main page and you will see the post. ;)

  10. Hi, it's me Lori again. I'm not very good at navigating the site I guess. The last post I see from you is your reply to me today. I also see the Aug 7 one. Is that the one you mean?
When I figure all this out, I will register so I won't be "anonymous" anymore.
Thanks for not blocking me out while I'm still anonymous.
    And thanks for your reply.
