passport card

This is really just a question but and Im hoping some of my readers may have some good info for me. To all my Mexico/US traveling friends do any of you have the passport card. My mom needs to get her passport to come down here and the card is way cheaper but I have never used it. I just want to make sure she wont have problems going or coming. Seems like she wouldn't its not all that new but I dont know anything about it. Please fill me in if you do.l

  1. Ok forget that question but Im leaving the post up in case anyone else had the question. Here is the answer I found on the travel. gov site
Why can’t I use the passport card to fly to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Bermuda?

The passport card was designed for the specific needs of northern and southern U.S. border communities with residents that cross the border frequently by land. The passport book is the only document approved for international travel by air.

  2. When it was time for me to renew my passport book, the paperwork offered the passport card for an additional $20 if applied for at the same time so I went ahead and got it.

As you mentioned it is only for land border crossings, passport book required for air travel.

One of the benefits I thought about having it though, is that while in Mx on vacation, I can leave my larger passport book locked up, and still have an official ID that is small enough to slide in behind a wallet photo my purse, easily accessible if needed, but easily hidden if I open up my wallet while out and about.
